The Best Technique

Friday Knight News

"Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion." Martha Graham

It is evident that passion is needed to be coupled with the best technique in every field of endeavor. The best technique however, is not a statement that can be qualified or quantified with a single answer. As the best technique has many variables to consider, before we can reach an appropriate response. As in most situations, we must always consider what the circumstances and conditions are to gain insight for a proper solution. After this, we must also take into account what preparation one has for this particular scenario. Primary with all things considered what is important is the amount of fight that is in the dog. Sometimes the unexpected fierceness of a French bulldog chasing off a bear is what matters in a fight. The conviction that you are correct and within your rights goes a long way in self-defense. Some come by this naturally, other rely on a good teacher to nurture this and to teach them how to unlock it.

Secondarily, having the punishment fit the crime goes a long way toward determining what the best technique is for the situation. Many times an individual is reluctant to use a finger jab to the eye of a companion for snatching a french fry off of their plate when a punch to the arm is more appropriate for this situation. So having the crime and punishment at appropriate levels along with balanced target acquisition and assessment is mandatory. By striking the eye, in the above scenario, could find you needing to be defended in court. Whereas the punch to the arm would serve as a reminder for your friend to ask permission instead of taking liberties. While on the street having someone assaulted for no reason, might move the finger jab to the eye up a notch or two as the best technique for self defense.

Tertiary physical conditioning and training also plays a determining role in what the best technique in your arsenal is going to be. Utilizing the finger jab to the eye as an example is well within the scope of anyone. Having the skill and speed to utilize this while under stress is enhanced by either or both the amount of fight in the dog and your training time. The quality of your training time also greatly reflects the quality of your technique. Someone with a decent spear hand can utilize the strike to other targets besides the eyes. I’ve seen the effects of spear hands thrown to the throat, groin, solar plexus and intercostal pressure points with great effect. In conclusion, stress level management is achieved through a combination of all three of these levels and the determination of the best technique is determined by this practice.
