FRIDAY KNIGHT NEWS
In the martial arts there are as many naysayers as there
are proponents of the power of internal strength. While some believe in its
existence, others like to point out that all of the ki demonstrations are
nothing more than parlor tricks and/or at best demonstrations of Newtonian physics.
I for one firmly reside in both camps; I acknowledge that ki demonstrations are
easily explained physical phenomena that rely on both the power of controlling
vectors of force and the power of relaxation.
So in a sense ki relies on our ability to maintain calm
while under pressure to allow us to engage these vectors of force from a
different perspective. This ability to relax can be seen as self-hypnosis, but I
also believe it is a mental attitude that can be expanded even further. I
believe almost everyone is aware of the importance Nikola Tesla has had in
science. He had once stated that; "If you want to find the secrets of the
universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration."
To do so we must draw a parallel with our thinking and
our understanding of how all energy travels in waves. Once we can conceive how
the wave effect can amplify or resolve physical, mental, or emotional conflicts
then we are on the threshold of utilizing ki. I am sure everyone is aware of
the vibration power of our spoken words. While most individuals of a certain
age grew up with the teaching that sticks and stones will break our bones but
words will never hurt us, now understand the fallacy in this philosophy.
Very often we find that the verbal attacks especially
from our youth stay with us long after the effects of a black eye, split lip,
or a bloody nose. Napoleon Hill said, “Think twice before you speak, because
your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in
the mind of another.” The concepts of inner harmony, blending with an opponent,
and awareness are all a part of both the internal and external expression of ki.
Once we are able to integrate the laws of Newtonian physics with the quantum
concepts that gives power to the subtle mental energy which through the power
of our words can affect the physical and psychological components of
individuals then we have begun to harness the power of ki.
This is why I find it important that we balance our
criticisms and encouragement of others. While I do believe it is important not
to offer false praise as this tends to lead our students into complacency, I do
believe it is important to point out two good elements from a person’s
performance to every negative comment. I also believe that it is even more
effective to utilize the positive comment/s to highlight a method that could
enhance even further development.
The power of the written word also can have a strong
effect because of the mental vibrations they form as long as the author is
writing along the line of a harmonious parallel vector of thought. When the
written or spoken word is subtle enough to shift the reader's thoughts, we have
succeeded in creating an aiki environment. Many people will still reject this
line of thinking, but in my view quantum reality is so much more alike this
concept then being dissimilar from it. My experience has given me more examples
along this line than what I can explain through any physical rationale that
forces me to accept these greater possibilities. Even though I cannot control
them or understand them, I know of their existence. As the great scientist Niels
Bohr.
